Supporting the community that supports us is one of our core values. We take part in many community initiatives and fundraisers as a team and individually.
The team at @home share the values and vision for our local community, with the big picture always being how we can make a difference to those less fortunate. We are privileged to be a part of such a special community of people who support, encourage, care, and we are all committed to our contribution. Aside from supporting many charities and fundraising events, we have a special in-house initiative whereby, each month, each team member elects a community event that we all support together. We will continue to update this page with our latest community projects, so stay tuned!
Thank you to all those who supported our Charity of the Month during in December. With your help, we were able to contribute and provide Christmas gifts to 300 local individuals accessing services at Karinya, Magnolia Place, Yemaya Women’s Support Service, Enterprising Aardvark, Migrant Resource Centre North, and Youth Futures Inc.
These gifts impact those in need in many ways, it goes beyond the physical item. It's about feeling seen, cared for, and valued by their community. Your generosity has not only brought smiles to the faces of those who received the gifts but has also contributed to building a stronger, more connected community.
CHARITY OF THE MONTH ❤️
For the month of February Maddy Oliver chose her favourite charity Red Cross. We all committed to either give blood or, if we were not eligible, to nominate a friend. It was a first visit for Maddie Macdonald and unsurprisingly, she took full advantage of the snacks!
The team @home are proud supporters of The Smith Family, Australia's largest children's charity helping disadvantaged Australian children get the most out of their education to create better futures for themselves. We arranged to sponsor a child in need in our local community to support them to participate fully in their education to achieve better life outcomes. Investing in the education of disadvantaged children delivers long-term positive benefits for them, their families and future generations.
A charity close to our hearts and of many who have been affected by cancer directly or indirectly with family and friends. Our local Cancer Council provides much-needed support to those suffering from the illness and also their families. @home provides support in several ways, hosting and participating in fundraising events and initiatives throughout the year.
Our team took part in Fred's Big Run in 2020. It is an awesome way to get fit and raise funds for a very important charity – The Fred Hollows Foundation. We had a fantastic time participating and look forward to repeating it again soon. Thank you to our teammate Ashley for choosing this as your month's charity!
We never need an excuse to throw a party, and Cupcake Day is one of our favourite annual events. It's an awesome opportunity to bake and fundraise for the RSPCA. Each year we get together and support our teammate Robyn by baking up a storm and holding the cupcake morning tea in our office. This is a cause very close to Robyn's heart after adopting her favourite fur baby, Oscar, from the RSPCA.
In 2021 we were all devastated to hear of the deteriorating conditions in Afghanistan and felt helpless for the displaced families, particularly the women and children who feared for their lives and futures. People were and still are left without shelter, or housed with over a dozen in a single room. They do not have access to food and basic necessities. We felt so strongly that we needed to do something to help, so we formed a committee with a group of local businesswomen and put together an event in just under 8 weeks, raising over $52,000. All proceeds went directly to Mahboba's Promise, an Australian-based organisation with people on the ground offering direct support to the people most in need.
This charity/act of kindness was organised by Robyn, who has chosen to support Dogs Homes of Tasmania. Robyn arranged donations of some much-needed items suggested by the organisation, with the team happily contributing. Another great community support initiative.
Roz chose Women’s Shelter Launceston – Magnolia House. Magnolia House aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for women and children in need. To help them achieve this, the team donated simple bathroom items like shampoo, toothbrushes, hair ties and pyjamas – things we often take for granted. Roz selected this charity because Magnolia House provides on-the-ground support to the most vulnerable women in our community.
