The Residential Tenancy Amendment (Smoke Alarms) Act 2012 has been passed and requires smoke alarms to be installed in all Tasmanian rental properties from May the 1st 2013. This means that all residential rental properties in Tasmania must have operational smoke alarms which are correctly located and maintained during occupancy. The new statewide water and sewerage corporation opening its doors in Tasmania on 1 July 2013 will be known as TasWater. TasWater will take over the water and sewerage services and assets currently operated by Ben Lomond Water, Cradle Mountain Water and Southern Water.
